About
I am a lecturer in Social Anthropology at the École Normale Supérieure of Lyon and hold a National Institute for Health and Medical Research (INSERM) Research Chair entitled "The social dimensions of Health Education" at the French Institute of Education and the Centre Norbert Elias (EHESS / CNRS).
I have carried out research in Bahia (northeastern Brazil) since 2004 focusing on sexual and reproductive health, experiences of the body, pharmaceuticals, local conceptions of blood and examining the intersections between citizenship and patienthood.
My new research builds on my sustained interest in anthropological theories of the body and materiality to examine how the relationships between foods and eaters are conceptualised in a range of interconnected contexts.
I recieved my Masters (2004) and PhD (2008) in Social Anthropology from the University of Cambridge and held a Fyssen Foundation Post-doctoral Research Fellowship at the École des hautes études en sciences sociales in Paris (2008-2010). I have an MA in Development and Environmental Studies from the French Institute for Development (IRD) and a BSc in History and Philosophy of Science from the Department of Science & Technology Studies at University College London.
