About
I am a Social Anthropologist, Assistant Professor (tenured) at the ENS de Lyon and advisor for "Science and Society" at IFé (French Institute of Education). I teach anthropology of science (Master 2 level) and my research interests focus on contemporary mental health issues in France within critical anthropology. I coordinate the development of research program "Telling mental health today" (Maison des sciences de l'homme, MSH, Paris-Nord, http://www.mshparisnord.fr/fr/recherches/axe-2-sante-et-societe/axe-2-
This research program is devoted to the study of disorders of social ties ("deviances", "suffering", "dependencies", "risk") and legitimate ways in telling mental health today. From an epistemological history and a critical perspective, we are interested in the formation of an area of intellectual, scientific and professional field around these objects and their construction in social sciences. From an empirical approach, circumscribed in cases studies, but resolutely interdisciplinary, special attention will be paid this year to practices that result in making new concerns visible (e.g
addictions, behavioral disorders, suffering, welfare) or, conversely, de-legitimizing the oldest (for example, the objects of classical psychiatry, the clinical treatment of "madness" and therapeutic community).
In the ERC research project Towards a Critical Moral Anthropology directed by Didier Fassin (http://morals.ias.edu ), my current research with Richard Rechtman concerns adolescent’s (especially working-class youth) mental health management.
I have recently completed (in french) The authority of psychoanalysts (Puf, 2010) and co-edited The social language of emotions. Studies on the relationship to body and health (Economica, 2008).
B.A. in Philosophy (University of Paris I-Sorbonne, 1997); M.A. in Philosophy (University of Paris I-Sorbonne, 1999), M.A. in Social Anthropology (University of Paris VIII- Saint-Denis, 1999) and Social Sciences (ENS-EHESS, 2000); Ph.D. in Social Anthropology (ENS-EHESS, 2008); post-doc in Social Anthropology (CNRS, IRIS, 2008-2010).
I am a member of the European Association of Social Anthropologists (EASA).
